Conforming vs Transforming

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”. Romans (12:1-2)

In Romans 12:2, the Apostle Paul encourages us not to conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The word ‘renewing’ in the Greek means renovation. It means a complete change for the better. This transformation is essential for understanding and living out God's perfect will. He gives a clear directive to break free from worldly influences and conform our minds to God's perfect will.

Conforming vs. Transforming

1. Conforming to the world involves embracing the values, beliefs, and behaviors that dominate the surrounding culture and society. This conformity often creeps in quietly and slowly, as we unknowingly take in the attitudes and viewpoints of our surroundings without a second thought. This tendency frequently drives us to place greater importance on worldly achievements, material possessions, and self-interest, overshadowing the values and principles outlined in the Bible. Adhering to worldly standards can lead us away from the profound truths and divine purpose that God has in store for us.

 2. Transforming in contrast, transforming our minds entails a significant and deliberate shift in our thinking and way of life. The process involves renewing our thought patterns, attitudes, and behaviors to align with God's Word and His will for our lives. This transformation starts with acknowledging that human nature may not align with God's standards and then making a conscious effort to change them. It includes letting go of worldly desires, selfishness, and sin while acknowledging the mindset of Christ (Philippians 2:5). Transforming our minds involves a continuous dedication to studying Scripture, engaging in prayer, and depending on the Holy Spirit for guidance and empowerment.

How to Give a Testimony in Seven Points

How to Give a Testimony in Seven Points: 1. Keep it short. 2. Make it truthful.  3. Start with your life before you are saved. 4. Recognize that you were spiritually dead, share why you did what you did. Let them know that there was a loss of meaning, and purpose in your life, along with a lack of love, joy, and no peace. 5. Describing the need for spiritual fulfillment is how you began to search out spiritual things, and you came to the conclusion that you were looking for a person (Jesus) rather than an experience. 6. Then recount your genuine conversion experience, the need to confess that you are a sinner in need of a Savior and by faith receive the free gift of salvation. Give God thanks and praise! 7. Tell them about your experience as a new creation in Christ since He entered your life. Let them know how He has given your life a new meaning, filled with hope and purpose that you had never experienced before. Tell them you have a new outlook and are free from sin. Expl...

Examples of Renewed Minds in the Bible

Spiritual Growth: Scripture is instrumental in our spiritual growth. It challenges us to grow in faith, love, and obedience. It encourages us to emulate the character of Christ and develop a deeper relationship with God through prayer, worship, and meditation on His Word. Examples of Renewed Minds in the Bible David—Psalm 119:11 David, often referred to as a man after God's own heart, provides us with a compelling example of a renewed mind in the Bible. In Psalm 119:11, he writes, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee" (KJV). Hiding God's Word in the Heart: David's commitment to hiding God's Word in his heart reflects the practice of meditating on Scripture. He didn't merely read it superficially; he internalized it, allowing it to become a part of his very being. This practice transformed his thought patterns, influencing his decisions and actions. Repentance: David faced numerous trials and temptations in his life, inclu...
